Surprise: Low-End Android Phones to Gain High-Resolution Displays and Dual Cores
The two companies which are subject to the rumors are LG Electronics and Galaxy Ace Samsung Electronics; they have released news of the arrival of some new mid- and low-end Android-based smartphones. While LG is putting Android 4.0 on some of its new phones from day one, Samsung is hoping to attract a new wave of users with the promises of a very good dual-core processor.
The new arrivals we’re talking about are of course, the Galaxy mini 2 and the Galaxy Ace 2 from Samsung, and the Optimus line from LG which brings forth the L3, L5 and L7 models.
According to LG, the lower-end L3 has a 3.2-inch display and ships with Android 2.3 installed; this is obviously a phone aimed at conquering the first-time Android users for whom the price of the product is crucial.
Of course, LG prepared some great surprises for the more advanced or experienced of users in the shape of the L5 and the L7 which will have a bigger display – 4.0-inch and 4.3-inch respectively, and which will ship with Android 4.0 installed.
Both companies are going for a slim design for this new line. Lg didn’t want to disclose the exact measurements of its new line, but we will trust them on this one.
Samsung’s Galaxy Ace 2 has an announced thickness of 10.5-millimeters; this, compared to the original Ace model (which was nearly 11.5 millimeters thick), is a pretty ok stat. However, the newest Ace 2 will be roughly a bit longer and wider, in order to make more room for a bigger and better quality screen with a higher resolution — 3.8 inches with a native resolution of 800×480-pixels (to appreciate that this is a great step ahead, we should mention that the first Ace model had a 3.5 inch screen and a 480×320 pixels resolution.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 also has another “ace” up its sleeve, and namely the 800 MHz dual-core processer, instead of the original single core processor which had the same speed. Just last year, you could only see these processors on just the higher-end smartphones, but seeing as that category has now moved on to the four core ones, two cores started turning up in cheaper products as well.
